About Institute of Foresters of Australia (IFA)IntroductionThe Institute of Foresters of Australia is a professional body with 1350 members engaged in all branches of forest management and conservation in Australia. The Institute is strongly committed to the principles of sustainable forest management and the processes and practices which translate these principles into outcomes.
The membership represents all segments of the forestry profession, including public and private practitioners engaged in many aspects of forestry, nature conservation, resource and land management, research, administration and education. Membership is not restricted to professional Foresters. Other forestry professionals are welcome to join IFA.
The main ‘Objects’ for which the Institute is established are:
IFA BoardThe IFA is a registered non-profit company limited by guarantee, directed by a Board of Directors consisting of a President, the Chairs of the State Divisional Committees, and a co-opted voting member from the membership. Board members are honorary and hold office for a period of 3 years.
The Board is responsible for the corporate, business affairs and oversighting of financial management of the Institute and sets the strategic direction for the Institute. The Board have two face-to-face meetings per year, usually in Canberra, and meetings via telephone conference at other times during the year.
IFA Divisions and BranchesThere are Divisions of the IFA in each State and the Australian Capital Territory, with a branch or branches within most Divisions. Divisions are co-ordinated through volunteer Committees.
IFA StaffThe IFA is largely a volunteer based organisation, with three employed staff, an Executive Director, Member Services Manager and Administrative Assistant all based in Canberra, ACT. |
