Maxwell Ralph Jacobs 2010 GrantsApplications Open 1 July and close 30 September
The late Dr Max Jacobs was one of Australia's most distinguished foresters. At the time of his retirement in 1970 he was the Director-General of the Forestry and Timber Bureau, having worked in the public service for 44 years. He died in Canberra in 1979.
In 1983 the Australian Academy of Science, in conjunction with the Institute of Foresters of Australia and the New Zealand Institute of Foresters, established a fund to commemorate his life and work. The fund is used to support worthy projects in any field of forestry research and to provide graduates within Australasia with support for professional development not readily available from other sources.
In 2006 the Academy of Science and New Zealand Institute of Foresters withdrew from the Fund and handed its administration to the Institute of Foresters of Australia (IFA). The Institute of Foresters of Australia has undertaken to fund the Max Jacobs Fund for at least a five-year period to 2011. All enquiries should be addressed to the Institute.
