About the Lecturer
Braden Jenkin
Braden has over 35 years’ experience in forestry. His career progressed contributing to the renaissance of Australia’s eucalypt plantation estate (developing silviculture for Eucalyptus globulus in southwest WA and commercialisation of research in Victoria). Such skills have been applied to balsa (Ochroma pyramidale, syn. O. lagopus) and teak (Tectona grandis) in Papua New Guinea. In 1990 he completed a Gottstein Fellowship studying eucalypt plantation management in South Africa, France and Portugal, combined with Australian experience. He has completed a Master of Business Administration to better understand business: accounting, corporate finance, international marketing and business development.
In 1998, he founded Sylva Systems Pty Ltd to provide services to corporate (domestic and international), individual and government clients and a range of Universities. In 2006 he participated in an Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) project in PNG focussed on commercial trees: contributing business aspects of tree growing for local communities. This commenced a continuous association with the people of PNG from communities in remote villages to Government Ministers: working with Government, private industry and academic institutions. He has also undertaken projects in India for the International Finance Corporation considering smallholder wood supply to pulp and paper facilities.
