Landscape Restoration & Entomology Expo
The Forestry Australia VIC Branch warmly invites you to join us for a day, exploring Karl Kny’s remarkable 35-year landscape restoration journey at his property in Newham, on the north side of Mount Macedon. Karl’s work has transformed the landscape into a thriving ecosystem and living example of sustainable land management and regenerative forestry. After the field walk, participants are invited to visit Australia’s largest insect exhibition, a fascinating look at the world of entomology.
Date: Saturday 4 October
Time: 9:30am – 5:00pm (If you are carpooling from Woodend, please meet us at 9am)
Transport: Self-drive. Please let us know during registration if you would like to carpool from Woodend.
Equipment: Wear appropriate clothing including sturdy footwear, raincoat and cold weather clothes.
Meals: BYO Morning tea, light lunch will be provided.

9:00am: Carpool Meet-up
For those who have opted to carpool, please meet at Woodend Train Station to arrange transport to the field site.
9:30am – 1:30pm: Presentation: 35 Years of Landscape Restoration and Regenerative Forestry
Speaker: Karl Kny
Location: 279 Sheltons Road, Newham
Karl will share the story of his property’s transformation, followed by a guided 4 km field walk (with a lunch stop halfway) covering:
- Plantings for biodiversity and carbon sequestration
- Water in the landscape and management strategies
- Native forest rehabilitation
- Regenerative forestry trials
2:00pm – 4:00pm: National Insect Expo
