WA Field Trip | Dryandra Woodlands

Remeasuring Brown Mallet Plots and Dryandra Woodlands Experience
Date: Friday 14 August – Sunday 16 August 2026

The WA Branch of Forestry Australia invites you to join us for a winter weekend in Dryandra Woodlands.

Over the weekend, participants will have the opportunity to assist with remeasuring brown mallet plots, enjoy time in the Dryandra woodlands, and attend the Barna Mia nocturnal wildlife experience. Numbat expert Dr Tony Friend will also join us for a casual presentation.

We understand that not everyone will want to take part in the plot remeasurement. You are still very welcome to join the weekend, enjoy Dryandra Woodlands, attend the Barna Mia experience and take part in the social activities.

Friends, family and colleagues are warmly welcome. Please note that all attendees must be 18 years or older.

When registering, please let us know which activities you are likely to join so we can plan accordingly.

Friday 14 August
Late afternoon: Arrival in Dryandra.

Saturday 15 August
Morning: Brown mallet plot remeasurement.
Lunch: Break for lunch.
Afternoon: Free time to relax and explore the area.
6:00 pm: Barna Mia nocturnal wildlife experience.

Sunday 16 August
Morning: Depart at leisure.

Meals
Please supply your own meals. Facilities include a commercial kitchen, dining hall and gas BBQs.

Transport
Please arrange your own transport. Let us know during registration if you would like to share transport, or if you have space available for others.

Equipment
Measuring gear will be provided. Participants joining the plot remeasurement will need to bring a hard hat. Please let us know during registration if you need to borrow one.

Guests and Attendance
Friends, family and colleagues are warmly welcome to attend. Please note that all attendees must be 18 years or older.

Barna Mia Nocturnal Wildlife Experience
Please note that the registration fee does not include the Barna Mia experience. This is payable on the night directly to DBCA staff. Cash and card payments are accepted.

Suggested Accommodation

Bed option

Dryandra is a popular destination and the cottages are already booked for this weekend. Forestry Australia has secured the entire Currawong Complex at Lions Dryandra Village. To view the location, click HERE.

  • The complex includes four dorms with bunk beds. Each dorm sleeps up to 25 people.
  • Please note that linen is not provided, so you will need to bring your own.
  • If you would like to stay in the Currawong Complex, please let us know during registration.

Camping option
There are campsites nearby at Congelin Campground and Gnaala Mia Campground. These sites cannot be booked in advance. If those campsites are full and you would still like to camp, camping is also available at the Currawong Complex.

Accessibility
This field trip will take place in Dryandra Woodlands and may include walking through bushland, along uneven ground, and on unsealed tracks. Some areas may have limited accessibility. Participants with accessibility requirements, health considerations, or any concerns about taking part in the activities are encouraged to contact the organisers before the event to discuss suitable arrangements.
