New Name for IFA/AFG to Reflect the Future of Forestry

MEDIA RELEASE
THURSDAY 7 OCTOBER

The professional association representing some 1,000 forest scientists, researchers and professional forest land managers in Australia will soon be known by a new name.

The Institute of Foresters of Australia and Australian Forest Growers (IFA/AFG) has announced it will launch a new identity at its upcoming national conference, which will be held in Launceston and online in a hybrid model, from 11 to 14 October 2021.

IFA/AFG CEO Jacquie Martin said the renaming process aimed to better align the identity of the association with the future of the forestry profession.

“Our association is made up of scientists, professionals and growers who manage, study and care for our forests, and we wanted a name which better reflects this,” Ms Martin said “As a society, the way we manage forests is always evolving, alongside the most up-to-date science and research. It’s important our identity keeps pace with these changes in approach, and that the public understands what our members do and what they stand for.

“Our members play a vital role in making sure Australia’s forests are able to serve a broad range of interests for society, a role which continues to increase in importance as populations grow.

“Forestry, forest professionals and forest management offer nature-based solutions for some of society’s most significant challenges, including catastrophic bushfires, biodiversity decline and climate change.

“We have consulted widely with our members and the general public in reaching a final name which reflects this and can’t wait to announce it at one of the biggest forestry events of the year, our national conference.”

The IFA/AFG National Conference, Your forests, our future, will be held from 11-14 October 2021, both in-person (Launceston, Tasmania) and online.

Registrations close at 12.00 noon (AEDT) Friday 8 October
