Forestry sector professionals are set to inspire the next generation of foresters with a packed audience gathering for today’s Careers in Forestry webinar.

Forestry Australia’s Future Foresters Initiative Committee has organised an array of speakers set to offer unique insights, and a discussion around career pathways to nearly 200 recent graduates, students, and those with an interest in the forestry vocation.

Forestry Australia CEO Jacquie Martin said it is fantastic to see a strong level of interest and shows Australia’s forestry sector is looking bright with hopes this will be a catalyst to gain new talent.

“A career in forestry is dynamic, rewarding, and varied and gives us great confidence for the future ahead,” Ms Martin said.

“Forestry also provides secure, long-term employment and outdoor work which many people love.”

“We’re extremely excited to put on this webinar to provide information into what a career in Forestry or Land Management could look like and provide a strong tool kit of resources to support participants.

“Our speakers will explore a diverse range of topics and explain the variety of career opportunities including engaging in nature conservation, resource and land management, and research.

Gavin Livingston from AKD Softwoods, has worked across different states and companies and will impart his reflections from his education journey to career, key lessons, recommendations for others, and why people should consider a career in the forestry sector.

“It’s an exciting time to join the forestry sector as sustainably managing forests in a changing world is a huge task and incredibly rewarding.

Other topics covered by long-serving industry experts included Work smart and keep your hands dirty: reflections of a field practitioner who really likes maps from The Taungurung Land and Water Council, What does a career in the forestry sector look like? By Michael Hansby and presented by Adele W, Remsoft and Forestry Corporation NSW Chantal Dalli provided insider knowledge on the recruitment process, along with a takeaway Application Guide.

The webinar was chaired by Jenna Hammond from Sustainable Timber Tasmania.
