Australia's plantations 2009 inventory update Thursday, 4 June 2009 Australia’s Plantation Inventory is an annual update of timber plantation areas in each State and Territory to highlight trends in plantation development. The National Plantation Inventory is part of the National Forest Inventory and has been reporting on Australia’s timber plantations since 1993.
The Bureau of Rural Sciences (BRS) has released the 2009 inventory update. Members can access the latest release from the BRS website: http://adl.brs.gov.au/mapserv/plant/2009updatecoverpage.phtml.

President announces International affiliation - CFA Thursday, 12 March 2009 IFA President Dr Peter Volker RPF FIFA is pleased to announce that the IFA Board of Directors has approved the IFA joining the Commonwealth Forestry Association (CFA).
“The IFA/CFA have had a long association and joined together at IFA National Conferences in recent years to promote the cause of sustainable international forestry” Volker said.
The Board’s approval is another step in carrying out the Strategic Plan 2008-11 requirement for the IFA to become more active in promoting and leading debate in International forestry issues.
Membership will become effective from 1 July 2009 and members will be informed in the June issue of The Forester of the services provided by the CFA .

Emil Johnston an honoured Fellow Thursday, 5 March 2009 The IFA Board of Director's has pleasure in announcing that it has approved the nomination of Emil Johnston of Tasmania to be elevated to Fellow membership of the IFA.
Emil Johnston began his career in Forestry on the cusp of the outbreak of World War II. He completed his secondary schooling in 1938 at St. Patrick's College in Launceston, where only about 10 students studied to matriculation level. Commencing work with the Forestry Department of Tasmania in 1939, he received a scholarship to attend a 2 year general Science Degree from the University of Tasmania. He then went to the original Australian Forestry School in Canberra, where he studied for another 2 years to graduate with a Bachelor of Forestry degree in 1943.
